JR's standup

John Robert is just full of witty observations. Now if only he could keep from laughing at his own jokes...

How do you spend your one-and-a-half-year birthday when you're John Robert? Why, waiting in line at the polling place for five and a half hours, of course!

Fit to Sip

We thought John Robert might not learn how to drink through a straw until he was old enough for us to verbally explain to him how to do it. We had offered him cups with straws to drink from, and he just wasn't getting it--although he loves to play with straws. But last night, while we were at the Honda dealership, we were drinking Cokes from cups with straws. John Robert grabbed one and started drinking! He didn't like the taste, but he thought sipping through the straw was so cool he didn't want to quit. So we emptied one of our cups and poured the milk from his sippy cup into it. He drank that down and we had to refill with water to keep him satisfied.

This picture is from breakfast this morning. We had gone out to eat (it's easier to beat the church crowd when you're up early due to daylight savings time), and he was once again happily drinking his milk through a straw.

Oh, by the way, we bought an '08 Fit.

If you like to talk to tomatoes...

John Robert absolutely loves VeggieTales, and now he's starting to "sing along" with the theme song.

What?!

John Robert's favorite joke. A joke that's all punchline and no setup.

Having a child teaches you many things about yourself. Like all the parts of your body that can be pulled or stepped on.

Piano

John Robert was introduced to the piano while at Grandma and Grandpa Bocksnick's house over the weekend. He would play a little melody, and we would applaud. He learned quickly that we would clap after he played something, so he began to play just a couple notes before turning around to see us clap. But we said that he needed to play something more substantial if he wanted to earn some applause. He understood that, too. When he was all done, he climbed down and stood next to the piano to clap with us.

Charlestowne Landing

We took a trip to Charlestowne Landing. It was our first time, and we weren't prepared to walk the whole area--especially since it was so hot! But we really enjoyed the indoor exhibits and the zoo area. We plan to go back when it's a bit cooler. And we'll bring water bottles.

Cuts

John Robert got his second haircut today. He was a little too animated to sit still for scissors, so we said they could try the clippers. We weren't sure if they would scare him, but he did just fine. Now he's got a buzz cut.

Later in the evening, he was playing with a candle in a glass jar. He broke it and cut the palm of his hand in two places. That's a tough place to bandage on a 15-month-old, so after getting him cleaned up, I smeared ointment on his palm and put a sock over his hand, wrapping tape around the wrist so he couldn't pull it off.

In this picture, it's gotten repositioned and soaked as he was playing in the toilet again. After taking it I cleaned his hand, gave him a fresh sock, and put him to bed.

Swimming

It was John Robert's last day of swimming lessons today. Even though a couple sessions were called off because the staff "saw thunder," and even though he did a face plant on the concrete that sent him to the emergency room, and even though he hasn't yet mastered the art of kicking his legs and paddling with his arms, JR came away with a bruised nose, a couple scratches, and a certificate of participation.

First Haircut

John Robert had his first haircut yesterday. As difficult as it was to say goodbye to those curls, it was time.

He was really good during the haircut, too. The stylist wet his hair down, brushed out the crumbs, sweet potato, and whatever else was in his hair, and went to work. JR sat still and didn't complain at all until the very end when he got tired of sitting there.

Now he looks like a proper young gentleman.

Great Grandparents and Grandparents, What Fun!!

Walkin Tall.... and Fast

13 months and counting

He is walking,  talking his own language and hiding my keys in various places.   Needless to say Jack is a force to be reckoned with.
I know that as you grow up your parents say just wait until you have kids you'll understand.    Now I do.   I cant get over how fast he is growing.   It seems like just yesterday  we were saying, covered in spit up mind you,  wow  look I think he smiled!!... no  no   he just farted.   Maybe next time.  Now we are eagerly waiting his first word.
He is eating with his own utensils... kind of, walking, getting in to everything, working on drinking from a cup,  making funnies,  driving a bus,  loving the cats and dogs, throwing a ball, fake crying to get attention and really loving life.

Just last week he met his great grand parents!!   John Robert also experienced what is Dollywood.    He is looking forward to seeing his Aunts, Uncles and cousin over Thanksgiving!!

One year old!

It's John Robert's first birthday, and what first birthday party would be complete without a face full of birthday cake?

The Tub

My cousin took a bath today, too.

Jack

He's ten months old. He's cutting his fourth tooth. He crawls everywhere, pulls up on furniture, and will get into anything. He stands by himself for short periods of time, but only walks when he's holding your hands or pushing something. He babbles his own language, but doesn't say any "real" words yet. He claps his hands, and will use clapping to try to communicate with us. He loves music--especially Alicia Keys--and will dance a little bit to an up-beat song. He likes to play with paper and pull it apart. His latest playful achievement is throwing or bouncing his toys off the floor. He can get rings to roll a bit, and he'll grab Shatner's tennis ball and toss it or bounce it. He'll chase after the ball until Shatner takes it back.

John Robert Appleseed

Now that he has teeth, he can really dig into that apple! ...well, scrape it anyway.

Somebody was supposed to be taking a nap...

John Robert was in his crib for nap time, but he was more interested in standing up (and gnawing on the railing). His teeth are coming in, and he's chewing and drooling on anything he can get to his mouth.

The Bocksnick High Chair

JR uses the traditional Bocksnick high chair for the first time on New Year's Day at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Looks like the traditional bonk-you-in-the-head tray has done its job.
